[box] There will always be some in the land who are poor. That is why I am commanding you to share freely with the poor and with other Israelites in need. ~Deuteronomy 15:11 The work of caring for the poor is difficult, ongoing, and complex. The Baltimore-Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church along with lawyers and Baltimore County have come to a resolution which will keep Patapsco United Methodist Church out of court on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 and the fine will not be levied. The resolution brokered by these parties asks Patapsco United Methodist Church to educate our unhoused friends about the resources Baltimore County has and point them in those directions. Though we will not be paying the fine, the work here is not finished. Hopes are continued partnership between Baltimore County and the church to work towards long term resolutions to the issues surrounding the unhoused and the poor, especially in the Dundalk area. Patapsco UMC is resolved to remain in ministry to the poor as it has been for nearly 20 years. We know God is good and are overjoyed and blessed by the way our brothers and sisters in Christ and others have reached out to us in prayer, with funds, and with encouragement. Please continue to pray there will be follow through by all the powers that be so our friends with no place to lay their heads will not be forgotten here and around the nation. We continue to seek resources to continue in ministry and further our care for the poor and marginalized. https://www.yahoo.com/news/maryland-church-ordered-to-evict-homeless-or-pay-12000-fine-101323402.html?.tsrc=daily_mail [/box]
Though we will not have to pay the fine, there is ongoing work to be done to care for the unhoused and the poor in our midst. Patapsco United Methodist Church encourages you to support those efforts in your local communities. The Patapsco-Lodge Forest Cooperative Parish is a diverse group of people from a variety of backgrounds. Some have lived in the Dundalk/Edgemere areas for their whole lives, while others have come from as far as Nigeria. We have some senior saints approaching 100 and are looking forward to welcoming our newest member in October with all of the other decades represented in the middle. Our congregation includes singles, married, widowed, retired, employed, unemployed, and under employed. Despite our diversity, we are seeking to allow God to transform us into a loving community through prayer, worship, fellowship, and study. The Patapsco location includes a large sanctuary and tends to be more traditional, whereas the Lodge Forest location is reminiscent of a small country church and worship includes traditional and non-traditional elements.
We are a praying community. Each weekly service includes a time where our joys and concerns are shared and prayed over as a congregation. We would love to pray for you. If there is a way we can be praying for you, please submit your request here.
